MN Seamless Gutters and Gutter Guards

Seamless Rain Gutters MN

It may be hard to believe, but another summer is almost history. We all know it’s just a matter of time until another bitter cold winter arrives. However, now is the time to prepare your home for winter’s arrival.  The leaves likely haven’t fallen yet, but get ready.

Before the weather grows colder it’s important to prepare for the winter months to prevent costly damage.

Gutters and Downspouts

  • Clean gutters and downspouts frequently throughout fall to prevent build up of leaves and other debris. Neglected gutters can lead to wood rot problems and pest infestations, not to mention ruined gutters.
  • Be sure water is not coming down behind gutters and that all support brackets are securely in place.
  • Ensure that water drains properly and doesn’t pool. Pooling can cause damage to foundations, driveways, and walkways.  The further away you get the rain water from your roof away from your foundation, the better.

Clogged downspouts can also lead to wood rot, a leaky roof, interior water damage, basement or crawlspace and landscaping erosion.

Gutters that are full of leaves can hold water and pull down your entire gutter system, and sometimes parts of your roof.

Did you know that a 1,200 square foot roof (smaller than average roof) collects 748 gallons of water with just 1” of rainfall.  In Minnesota, a 2” – 3” rainfall or more is very common.  So that same 1,200 square foot roof now collects 2,244 gallons of water during a 3” rainfall.  Divide that 2,244 gallons of water by four downspouts and you have 561 gallons per downspout!  That is a lot of water to be dumping out just a few feet from your foundation.

Worse yet, your basement doesn’t have to even “flood” to sustain damage.  Some of the worst type of water damage results from very small, almost hardly noticeable amounts of water leaking through your foundation.  Long-term exposure to small amounts of water eventually leads to black mold growth in a finished basement.  One gallon of 561 gallons seeping into your finished drywall can cause a surprising amount of mold growth.
